The Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) play a vital role in improving access to essential health services within the Nairobi City County and in a bid to enhance primary healthcare services the Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) must be fully supported by the government to ensure they deliver healthcare services to the City residents.
During 60th Madaraka Day celebrations held at Joe Kadenge stadium formerly known as City stadium, H.E Governor Sakaja reaffirmed his commitment to building a quality and affordable healthcare system through installation of more ICUs beds and supply of medical commodities to the public hospitals, including the payment of a monthly stipend of Ksh. 3,500 to all Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) in the Nairobi City County.
Moreover, H.E Governor Sakaja announced that all Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) are in the process to be enrolled to NHIF medical scheme. The County government will also partner with National government to increase their monthly stipend from Ksh. 3,500 to Ksh. 5,500 per month and to train more Community Health Volunteers (CHVs).
“About 7,460 Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) that serve in Nairobi City County, who used to offer healthcare services without pay, are now enjoying monthly wage of ksh 3,500 courtesy of the current county administration, we have plan to enroll all the CHVs to the NHIF medical scheme and also the County government to partner with national government to raise the monthly stipend to Kes. 5,500 to ensure the universal healthcare is achieved” Governor Sakaja said.
Nairobi City County Government is committed to fostering a long-term partnership with Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) in achieving universal healthcare. Through this collaboration, Nairobi City County aim to transform the healthcare sector. This collaboration will be catalyst for positive change to healthcare services to the Nairobi County hospitals and the community members.
