Nairobi Governor Sakaja Johnson this month presided over the groundbreaking ceremony of Mlango Kubwa’s first public Clinic.
The Ksh22.6MN facility will serve over 2,500 households across Mlango Kubwa ward, Mathare Constituency. The clinic is expected to also have a maternity ward and theatre.
“Very soon we will be opening some additional hospitals to cater for our informal settlements. We are upgrading our various county health facilities, building new hospitals that we shall be opening across the country to ensure that our people have access to healthcare which I believe is a foundation of a sound health secure and prosperous county,” said Sakaja Johnson
“This is just one of the many projects that are underway as the county added each ward representative sh23M for Ward Development Program. This facility will be a fully fledged clinic with operational theatre, Maternity and ward wings to serve the people of this ward other adjacent areas” added Sakaja.
The county is investing in new health facilities and expanding existing ones to cater for the need a of the people of Nairobi, in addition to opening specialty hospitals and clinics.
The Mlango Kubwa clinic will be constructed under the Ward Develooment Programme ( WDP). Governor Sakaja increased the allocation of WDP from Ksh17MN to KSh23MN per ward. This has enabled to drive development in the ward level.
The ward representative, MCA Hon Susan Makungu said the completion of the state of art clinic will contribute immensely to the wellbeing of the local residents especially targeting those who can’t afford specialized medical services from private health facilities.
“Upon completion of this hospital, the residents will be able to get immediate health services here, and cut off additional costs they always incur in private facilities” said MCA Susan Makungu.
