Nairobi Governor Sakaja Johnson has called for addition of more constituencies in Nairobi County.

The Governor claimed that the capital city with a total of 4.4M people has shortage of constituencies, saying that the increasing population overwhelms the 17 available constituencies.

He protested over the inequitable allocation of bursary and Constituencies Development Funds (CDF) for public primary schools in Nairobi as compared to constituencies in other counterpart counties with less population.

“One constituency cannot have over 200,000 people getting CDF and bursary equal to constituencies in other underpopulated counties. In Nairobi we are giving our children Sh5,000 for bursary while other counties are dashing out sh100,000” said Governor Sakaja Johnson during the unveiling of newly constructed ECD block in Kayole central ward, Embakasi Central.

“Nairobi needs another 16 constituencies, that is why I have asked the National Assembly Education Budget Committee to factor it” added Sakaja.

He also revealed that in less than one year, Nairobi County has managed to disburse a total of sh1.025B for bursary.

The county disbursed sh5M for bursary in first and second terms and plans to add sh2M for third term.
