Rehabilitation of 9th Street Road, Eastleigh and Construction of a New Sewer Line

25th January 2024…Kyalo Nzambu has lived in 9th Street in Eastleigh for 25 years and over the years he has seen the road deteriorate to being impassable, flooded and a dumping site.

“For the 25 years I have been here, this road has been neglected. The road was full of grass and water harbouring mosquitos,” said Nzambu. “I am happy to see it being built, we had lost hope.”

Nairobi County is currently on ground working on the sewage and the 180 meters road. The contractor is working to connect the 9th street sewer to the one on 3rd Street, for now, awaiting further works by Nairobi Water and Sewerage Company (NWSC).

The challenge is of this road has been the sewer. Currently the contractor is removing contaminated materials by the sewer, before working on the open and closed drainage – with manholes – before tarmacking of the road begins.

This is part of the five roads being done in Eastleigh by the Works and Mobility Sector. Currently there are various road rehabilitation projects ongoing across the city including CBD.

Hassan Haji, a resident in the area was very happy that Governor Sakaja and his administration has taken the initiative to rehabilitate the road.

“This road has been in pathetic state for the last 20 years. We have suffered a lot but we are happy with the good work being done by the Governor and his administration in rehabilitating the road,” Hassan added.
