Street lighting, often taken for granted, serves as a silent guardian that transforms the city’s fabric from dusk till dawn. Beyond merely illuminating pathways, street lighting has a remarkable impact on safety, community connectivity, economic activity, and the overall well-being of city dwellers.

With the introduction of Energy Efficient Street Lighting, the residents of Nairobi County will continue to enjoy enhanced security on the city streets thus creating a safer environment at night. The Energy-efficient lights will not only reduce energy consumption but also contribute to lowering carbon footprints of the county.

In keeping with his promise of restoring order and dignity to the people of Nairobi, Governor Sakaja through his administration has put up street lights across Kingara Road, James Gichuru Road all the way from the Ngong junction to Waiyaki Way. In addition, more than 1,557 streetlights have been installed/ replaced and are being maintained across the city.

“If there is light in the streets, people can stay outside longer, shops and restaurants can stay open longer meaning, generation of more revenue and also minimal night traffic accidents on our roads” said Anderson Kiman, a resident along Waiyaki way

Proper lighting on the streets will result in extended operating hours for businesses, sparking a ripple effect of economic growth. Restaurants, cafes, and shops can extend their trading hours, catering to customers who seek to unwind or shop after work. Increased foot traffic in commercial centers will not only benefit local entrepreneurs but also bolster the city’s revenue.

“This is a good initiative from the Nairobi City County administration under the leadership of Governor Sakaja. I see more people strolling than before when the street was too dark to walk around” said Miriam Akinyi ; resident on James Gichuru road

Additionally, the illumination of streets in Kilimani, Kileleshwa and Lavington will enhance the safety of both pedestrians and drivers by providing greater visibility along the sidewalks and roads.

The Nairobi County administration is committed to installing, repairing, upgrading and maintaining more street lights to foster safety, reduce traffic accidents, protect pedestrians, reduce crime and prevent road assets vandalism. This will play an integral role in shaping the quality of life for Nairobi County residents and create a city of Order and Dignity, Hope and Opportunity for all.
